The Patriarchal University Ecclesiastical Academy of Crete (P.U.E.A.K.) is a University Ecclesiastical Academy of the Orthodox Church in Greece, part of tertiary education, and supervised by the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs & Sports. It is established by Law 3432/2006 (Government Gazette 14/A'/3-2-2006) of the Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs, as amended by Law 4823/2021. It was renamed "Patriarchal University Ecclesiastical Academy of Crete" by Article 20 of Law 4301/2014 (Government Gazette 223/A'/07-10-2014). Male students are admitted through the Panhellenic examinations and attend (with mandatory attendance) the Program of Pastoral Studies, with a minimum duration of eight academic semesters. Additionally, there is a Degree Equivalence Program for graduates of Higher Ecclesiastical Schools, lasting 2 semesters. Graduates of the Patriarchal Academy have the opportunity either to become priests of high educational level and be placed in a salary scale of university education, or to work in the administrative services of Archdioceses and Metropolises. Furthermore, as they obtain a tertiary education degree, they are eligible to participate in public and private recruitment competitions (excluding the competitions for educators).
